Fitness Friday

Do you know what day it is? Oh.My. it's Friday! And it's a holiday...which means I am getting paid to lay in bed and drink my tea! Oh the J.O.Y!
Anywho peeps! I have been toying with the idea of doing a Fitness Friday series on my blog and after asking a few bloggy friends about it... they wanted it..so here it is!

I get asked questions all the time about my diet and exercise plans and all that jazz! My roommates even called it the "Lauren Diet" and had me write them out plans. Now thats what this advice is. I'm no dietician. I just know what works for me! What works for me might not work for you! And that is A OK! But these are just some helpful hints and exactly what works for my lifestyle! Because thats what it is too...a lifestyle choice! 

This week we are talking liquids...drinks, if you will!


It is recommended that a women have no more than 6 teaspoons of sugar a day. And that there are even health risks that come with consuming that much. Now I'm not one to believe everything I hear or read. But since I cut out sugar as much as possible, I have noticed a difference in how I feel! 

So I replaced everything I used to drink with.......WATER. 

Yes that means NO MORE JUICE! (I never drank pop)

Which brings me to another situation...I know lots of people love their pop. That stuff is LOADED with sugar! 1 can of pop(soda) already surpasses your daily recommended amount of sugar. Not to mention all the other junk thats in that stuff! BAD BAD BAD! (no just remember this is what works for me! :) ) I've been scolded before on giving pop(soda) a bad rep. 

Anyways...back to the water topic! 
I always always have a bottle or class of water with me! I great water bottle to carry around with you is the BRITA WATER FILTER BOTTLE . So you can refill it as much as you need with tap water anywhere, and get nice fresh filtered water! 

Drinking water throughout the day is the best way to stay hydrated, also it will keep you feeling full so you won't feel the need to binge on food, when you are actually thirsty and not hungry! When your body is thirsty, you can often times mistake that for hunger because your body just wants something in there! So this helps cut back on snack attacks! 

How to flavour your water if you cant stand it? I promise you will eventually come to love water. I L.O.V.E it! But in the mean time if you need some flavour to go along with it, or you just need to spice things up... I will flavour my water with squeezed lemon, lime, or orange juice, and also add a  little bit of the zest for an extra zip! 


Now my other drink friend is TEA. love.this.stuff. 
Your body will love you for waking up to it, and also there are teas that help you relax for bed time!
You have to find the flavours you like of course! But I have yet to come across a tea that I don't like! And on a gloomy day what is better than a hot drink!? Sweeten with organic honey or agave nectar! 

Now another drinkable friend, usually goes under meals for me! But it is still drinkable so here we go! 
SMOOTHIES! These are a great great way to get in a lot of fruits and VEGGIES!...yes veggies! Don't grunt or grown at me now! Just give it a try!

VERY BERRY PROTEIN!

(Keep in mind I DONT measure...sorry!...I just throw it in!)

Ingredients:

ICE
ZOLA juice.. this stuff is seriously just mashed up fruit..its super thick and weird on its own! But perfect for smoothies!
Plain low fat greek yogurt - this stuff is a good protein source..especially if this is replacing a meal!
spinach - don't be afraid of it! and add a nice handful! Spinach is great for your skin and hair! If you add this to your daily diet, I promise you will notice a difference!
Frozen organic berries! Whatever kind you like!
A whole banana
A half an apple with the skin on
1 kiwi

Sometimes if I am replacing a meal with this, I will add some oats. This gives it bulk and will make you a little more full from just a shake! Plus oatmeal is a metabolism booster! woop woop!

  1. Great advice Lauren, i wish i liked tea, see todays post haha, but i have been off soda and on water for a month and have noticed a huge difference!

    1. It does make a HUGE difference replacing sugary drinks with water! Good job!! :) Oh and tea is tough for a lot of people to fall in love with so don't even worry about it!

  2. I mentally changed "pop" to "soda" every time. That's the New Yorker in me ;)

    I think I might drink too much water. People at work must think I have a bathroom fetish because I'm always running to go pee.

  6. That smoothie looks so delicious! I can't wait to try it! Funny thing though--when I first saw this post I thought the kiwis were potatoes and I was a little confused! Haha. Also, I think your advice is WONDERFUL!
