VICTIM? SURVIVOR? HERO?

I have been reading the MOST amazing book...for the 2nd time..and it is amazing how different things stick out to you when you read something more than once! It is a book called:

CHANGE YOUR QUESTIONS, CHANGE YOUR LIFE

And let me tell you this book is amazing!!..It is written by Sis. Wendy Watson Nelson.

The most recent part I read that I absolutely loved was titled.. VICTIM? SURVIVOR? HERO?

Here are the parts that I love!:

"What story have you been telling yourself and others about you and your life? How have you been casting yourself? As the story of your life unfolds, each time you tell some one how you are doing or what you are doing, do you emerge as a victim, survivor, or hero?"

VICTIMS - Those who are downtrodden and are always under the influence of someone or some problem or force. One can be a victim even of time and "busyness"

SURVIVORS - Those who seek constantly to find a way just to stay afloat amid unending difficulties, challenges, and disasters.

HEROES - Those who have discovered the strength, skills, and understanding to enjoy a rich, full life - despite horrific problems they never thought they would be battling and that would defeat a lesser person. A hero is also keen to help others by sharing what they have discovered.

The gospel teaches that each of us was born to be a hero! We were born to succeed! With the Lord's help, the hero that you truly are can and will emerge!

" SAME TROUBLESOME, EVEN TERRIFYING, SITUATION BUT WITH A DIFFERENT RESPONSE FROM YOU. A HEROIC RESPONSE!"

"Can you think of an instance where you were prepared to respond to the troublesome situation as a victim and instead you responded as a survivor, or even a hero?"

"Which of the following introductions would be most accurate in describing your life story?"

  • This is the story of someone who had the courage to...
  • This is the story of someone who wished they had the courage to...
  • This is the story of someone who realized just in time that they had the courage to...

I think personally my story would be the last one... Because there was definitely a point at the beginning of my trial where I just wanted to give up! I was so angry and confused...and THEN I had a LIGHTBULB moment and realized that I was STRONGER than everything that was happening around me!!

After every message in the book there is always a writing activity to get you really thinking! And this one has been my favourite so far!

WRITE a letter to whomever or whatever has caused you to experience a trial. It can go something like this:

DEAR (name of your problem)

Actually (name of your problem), I don't want to call you "Dear" because you have hurt me so much.

You entered my life...

You have influenced me by...

You have made me doubt...

You have whispered lies to me, like...

You have made me...

You have affected my family by...

You have affected my relationships with others by...

I want you to know that, I am coming to understand that I have unintentionally invited you to stay in my life by...

I now understand that some of the things that made me vulnerable to keeping you and your influence in my life were...

I can now see that some of my greatest strengths and resources in overcoming you and your effects on my life are...

When I am free from you and your influence, _____ and ______ will replace you, and I will feel...

And look...

And love...

One time when you tried to rule me but I was able to be stronger than you was...

As trying and "our relationship" has been, you, (name of problem), and your effects have taught me, and are teaching me...

In closing I would like to say...

CHALLENGE!

TRY writing the next week of your life in advance. What hero like things will you do, say, think, and feel in order to live a hero life this next week?

ANYWHO! Happy Sunday ALL!! I hope it was great! And that you had an opportunity to feel the Spirit through out the day!
